Collection's History

The «Rheingold» Collection

According to the famous German legend «Die Nibelungen», knight Hagen dumped the huge Nibelungen treasure into the river Rhine, after the assassination of Siegfried, the dragon slayer.

Poets, painters, sculptors and composers have given this myth unforgettable expression. One of the most famous, Richard Wagner, composed the four-part opera series «Der Ring der Nibelungen» including part one, «Rheingold».

The consignor of the collection has been a committed admirer of Wagner's compositions. He had taken over the collection from his father, and he has supplemented and expanded it through valuable investment holdings for a period of over 20 years. This explains the comprehensive range of gold coins it contains (a total of more than 2'200).
